Sulcata tortoises are natural grazers. They don’t need to be served a plate of grass and greens topped with a fresh hibiscus flower. They graze all day on grass, weeds, leaves and the occasional flower or two. But, not everything can be grazed.
You may not have fresh greens growing in your garden. Or maybe you want to offer tortoise pellets, like Mazuri or Grassland, once in a while. It’s actually good to mix up and vary your tortoise’s diet with safe, high-fiber greens and tortoise pellets once in a while.
You can throw a head of radicchio or endive on a patch of green grass. You can even add a pile of Mazuri or hay pellets on top of the ground that’s already available. But if you’re looking for something to keep the dirt off your tortoise’s food. Or maybe you’re feeding your adult sulcata inside, you’ll probably want a food plate for large sulcata.
