Sulcata tortoises are grazing tortoises that primarily eat a variety of grasses. The blend is a combination of mostly warm season grasses designed to thrive in the southern states.
Pasture grass seed blend of approximately 10% each Buffalo grass, big and little Bluestem, western Wheatgrass, tall Fescue, Bermuda grass Orchard grass, blue Grama, Sheep Fescue and Creeping Red Fescue.
When sprouting seeds, keep your tortoise away from the area you plant the seeds, as your tortoise will eat the sprouting grasses before they have a chance to properly root.
Consider growing the grass seeds in grow trays and plant the sheets of grass when they have stronger roots. Or plant the seeds directly in the ground and fence off the area before allowing your sulcata to graze on the area.
